Issue 14: Staff and volunteer retention

Volunteers and charity employees are critical to a healthy and productive third sector.

Volunteers and charity employees are critical to a healthy and productive third sector. Whilst some external factors, such as the pandemic, have impacted takeup, there are signs of re-emerging interest and recovery.

The Commission on Civil Society identified that there is a need to develop new ways to improve the retention, recognition and engagement of volunteers and that there is an opportunity for the private sector to play a crucial role in this by getting involved in corporate social responsibility initiatives.
