Merger of hospital charities
2 hospital charities, Above & Beyond and Weston Area Charitable Trust merged and rebranded under the new identity, Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity, back in October 2021, aiming to streamline their efforts to support all ten hospital sites of University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW).
A new visual identity
The rebranding effort, undertaken by Mr B & Friends, aimed to create a visual and emotional connection with old and new supporters. The agency took on the challenge of crafting a brand that radiates positivity.
The resulting vibrant and bold new charity branding encapsulates the spirit of the unified charity, symbolising the collective effort to go “do great things” for patients across Bristol, Weston-super-Mare, and the wider South West. The logo, featuring a sunburst, serves as a visual metaphor for the joy and impact the charity delivers, providing a single focused identity for the brand.
Mr B & Friends created brand guidelines, assets and a tone of voice for the charity that is playful and positive.
The charity rebranding initiative has been transformative and contributed to tangible positive outcomes for Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity. Since the launch of the new brand in 2021, the charity has witnessed increased donations, expanded social media followership, and the establishment of new partnerships. Furthermore, 100% of charity staff now find it easier to explain and pitch the charity to supporters and networks, reflecting the rebrand’s success in creating clarity and resonance.
The charity’s commitment to “do/doing great things” extends beyond just a tagline; it is deeply embedded in its collaboration with UHBW to fund small yet impactful initiatives and large-scale projects. Together, they strive to keep the hospitals at the forefront of life-changing treatments and research, creating healing environments and spaces that go beyond the scope of the NHS alone.
